Emmy Award Winning Film Maker to Produce Documentary Titled “Growing Up on Sanibel Island”
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to grow up on Sanibel Island? Soon, a documentary on that very topic will begin production, which will have its premiere at BIG ARTS on April 10, 2014.
The film is produced by long-time Sanibel resident David E. Carter, who has won 7 Emmy Awards. His most recent work, titled “Dear Baseball: I Love You,” was also produced on Sanibel. That film was honored by the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. His earlier documentary for CROW was also nominated for an Emmy Award.
The documentary features four generations of people who grew up on Sanibel. The film will feature some long –time Sanibel residents who either grew up here, or who moved here in their early adult years, who and who raised families here. An additional focus will on adults who grew up here, takes a nostalgic look back at their experience growing up Sanibel Island. Finally, current “Sanibel kids” are featured, with glimpses into their island lives.
One of these segments includes a reminiscence of three girls – now in college – who buried a “time capsule” on the beach. Another features three current island teenagers who kayak to visit each other’s homes. Another story will features a fishing guide who grew up on Captiva, and who now has a son who shares his love of fishing. Additional Sanibel stories are be included.
