The purpose of the planning commission is to plan for, and where appropriate, limit development and redevelopment in the City of Sanibel consistent with the Sanibel Plan, & Land Development Code, and other ordinances.

The commission consist of 7 unsalaried Sanibel residents. Commissioners are appointed by majority vote of the City Council to serve a term of 3 consecutive years.
