FUN FACT: After running his boat aground here in the 1880s, the Rev. George Barnes built Sanibel's first cottage on the grounds which evolved into one of Sanibel's first beach front resorts when he expanded the property to 30 rooms. Barnes later built the Thistle Lodge for his daughter as a wedding present in the 1890s.
