FUN FACT: Derived from the Tupi Language in Brazil, "Anhinga" means devil or snake bird. In contrast to ducks, Anhingas can't waterproof their feathers resulting in a loss in buoyancy allowing them to dive easily in search of prey which they spear with their sharp bill. Sometimes mistaken for a Double Crested Cormorant, Anhingas have longer tail feathers a spear shaped bill while a Cormorant has a hook tip bill.
