If you love good food, and supporting the Sanibel Captiva community, then be sure to tip the wonderful local celebrity chefs who will be cooking to help raise money for the Sanibel Community House.
Help your community raise funds for the renovation of The Community House, specifically for the building of a new commercial grade kitchen that will host a myriad of educational, social and civic programs. Each year, The Community House is used by 57 island organizations and 50,000 people. After 88 years of wear-and-tear, it is vital to bring it up to date, both visually and functionally. The Community House receives no public funding and is totally reliant on the support of islanders.
Cooking with the Islands' Stars will be a chance for us to come together to support the organization so central to our sense of community. The evening will include fabulous appetizers from some of our best restaurants, desserts from the Kitchen Guild, and sumptious drinks. There will be opportunities to sponsor big ticket items for the kitchen and be name recognized on the item. The cooking competition is set up for five contestants who are family chefs with a passion for making authentic family recipes. In front of a live audience and three judges, each chef will prepare a signature dish. The one who raises the most money will star in an episode of Real Food, Real Kitchens. The judges' choice will be featured in the fall 2016 Real Food Real Kitchens book-a-zine.
One of the Celebrity Family Chefs will be our very own Mary Romulus from Island Dental. Without Mary, our smiles would not be as bright. Mary has been a dental hygienist at Island Dental since 2001. Originally from Boston, Mary came from a large Italian family raised with lots of love, food and humor! After losing her Mom to cancer this New Year's Eve, supporting the Island Chefs project at the Community House became a priority for Mary. Mary's mom shared recipes and love of people, both of which for Mary make the kitchen the heart of the home. Mary will be sharing her family recipe for Beef Braciole which is her Dad's favorite dish.
General admission tickets are $100 per person. VIP ticket are $150 per person and include front row seating and tasting of the food prepared on stage. When ordering tickets, please specify in the questionnaire section the people you would like to sit with; every attempt will be made to accommodate each group.
