Looking for a preschool on Sanibel and Captiva Island?

Founded by a group of parents in 1974, the Children's Education Center of the Islands is a nonprofit school for children ages 18 months through 5 years.

The Children's Center of the Islands (CECI) or also pronouced "CeeCee" began in 1974 the same year as Sanibel's incorporation into a city. The current CECI campus sits on five acres of land off of Casa Ybel Road.

Founded by a group of Sanibel parents in June of 1974, the Children's Education Center was designed to provide social activities for children ages 3 to 5 to prepare them to enter kindergarten. Their self-sustaining co-op used the original Bailey's General Store Building that is now located in the Sanibel Historical Village.

The school moved to its current location at 300 Casa Ybel Road in 1980. The Sanibel Lions Club and the Bailey family donated five acres of land. Two small guest cottages were donated by the Casa Ybel Resort and were relocated and connected by decks and walkways to the newly acquired land.

Today, children from 18 months to 5 years old enjoy this fabulous campus.

Fun Fact: From 2001 - 2004 the Pfeifer children Darby and John attended CECI and Mary Ellen Pfeifer served on the board for 3 years holding positions as the fund raising director and vice president of the board.
